BICOCCA SUPERLAB - CURATOR FRANCESCA CANFORA

With a soft texture, made of a precious white cotton brocade and sumptuous black velvet, the Olives are supported and defended by a wooden structure, a metaphor of a fragile nature that needs support and protection, The work is the bearer of two recurring themes in the artist's research: a the tree as a totemic element for man-as symvol of Nature and its life cycycles -and the impermanence of art, subjected, like the tree, to continuous changes and alterations, both in its matter and in the meaning, perceived in relation to the environment in which it is found. The antithesis of black and white refers to the need to reconcile opposites and the ability to became aware of oneself thanks to the presence of the other, reaching the awareness of one's self as a union of contradictions.
